“The good news of Jesus counters the deep fear of death in our society. In a world where the God of the living is not known or trusted, we use much energy fending off death, trying to stay young, trying to stay beautiful, trying to stay fit, trying to stay healthy, and if not young and beautiful, fit and healthy, then at least rich, in order to be safe. But all this frantic attempt to enhance life is, in the end, futile. For death, as life, is in God's hands. And we are safe.”
